Unfortunately, this is not a good picture of a jangada’s tiller (but it’s the best one I have). The tiller is laying on the deck at the foot of the steering bench, held against the rudder with a brick. Here you can see the slot at the head (right) which slips over the top of the rudder post. No bolts or pins are used to hold the head in place.
